I grew up listening to his early albums, and Heartcore is associated with many childhood memories. It wasn't until Middle School that I was able to appreciate the music, and now as a Freshman in College, I love showing him to my music-loving friends!

Sandemose on "Practicing time feel"
Ive been working on 4:3 in different ways for a while now. Havent got it down by far, but playing seems so much funnier when really learning new stuff. This part for me is so negleted, so every progress with time feel gives new perpectives on how to use harmony as well.
At the time Im working on just playing 4 notes over 3 beats (mostly arpeggios with four notes or pentatonic "shapes") as well as 8:3. My goal is to be able to play 8 over 3 with only click on "2" (one TWO three, that is) without rushing. I cant play 4:3 yet, but Im closing in. It would be cool to be able to alternate between 8 over 3 and 16s notes tripplets in groups of four. "Time" will tell I guess.
What rhythmic devices are you guys currently working with?

I'm sure you've all seen this, but if this is what Kurt's solo album sounds like, I'm there! Wow and he's using a white pick! (come on admit it guitar nerds, you're all wondering what pick he's using ;)
schwa on "Carvin guitars? Suggestions?"
Hey, everybody,
So I've been getting closer to the sound in my head, but I am starting to feel like my guitar is getting in my way. For a long time, I played a 1967 Guild CE100D, and then started using a Strat with humbuckers (Dimarzio Air Classics) to get a more focused, modern sound.
Anyways, the strat feels kind of dead in some spots on the neck, and I don't know how much I like the long scale length. So I'm going to sell some gear and get a new guitar.
So, my question is:
1: Has anyone here tried any Carvin semi-hollows? I'm interested in the HF2 FatBoy and the single and double cutaway semis, and curious about the HH2 headless.
2. How different are semi hollow and solid body? can you get a good tone (I'm thinking Kurt, Mike Moreno, "that sound") from a solid body?
3: what other guitars should I be looking at ?
Thanks!

Does anyone happen to have (or know where I can find) these two trio shows of Kurt's:
SJU Jazz Festival, Utrecht (2004)
Small's Jazz Club (1999)
I've been searching high and low to no avail. I have especially fond memories of his transcendent version of "At Long Last Love". Would love to hear it again...
Many Thanks

bingefeller on "How to get a Kurt like tone?"
I would love to be able to capture both Kurt's clean and dirty tones on my own equipments and am looking on some advice for settings and that.
I use a Suhr Modern into a Boss ME-80 direct into my computer or into a Roland Cube Lite as a monitor.
I'm looking for suggestions on EQ, reverb and delay settings so I can get close to his tones.
Cheers!
Here's a good example of his dirty tone...it's like there is a short echo there, quite low in the mix but not low enough that you can't hear it.

Nick55 on "Jazz Harmony - Pentatonics and Minor 6 shapes of 7 chords"
Been thinking about this stuff
It’s great!
First Pentatonics
So – Eb = C7 blues etc
Also for C7
You can have Bb pent
And F pent [C7sus]
..and C of course. Nice to have really inside sound for contrast
And...
G pent = turn it into a maj 7 — why not! You’re allowed! It’s cool
....so while you’re at it – can also use D pent {still turning the C7 into a Cmaj7}
A pent and you’re gone into fairy land
Same with E, B and F# pents
- but you can weave a maze of logic to make them work ..forget that for the time being.
(Smooth and Sweet for now)
Ab pent – and It’s now either C7alt or a dark c minor
And last one: Db pentatonic scale: basically could be one of three:
even darker c minor
C7sus b13, b9 ...with a passing #9? ..could be something like that
and; you could just be crazy man and just be going up a semitone and out, wild, wow!!!
---
Now to minor 6 shapes
Let’s move away from our C centricity for a moment
We’ll focus it all on F7 {F, Eb, A}
C minor six shape (C, Eb, G, A) -- cute!
D ,, ,, ,, ...extra cute!
F ,, ,, ,, bluesy, cool
Ab ,, ,, ,, extra bluesy man! - really cool cause can be just blues scale like; altered scale; or same as one below[next]:
B ,, ,, ,, out! But NOT out. Fantastic (= F7 13 #11 b9 #9) = diminished scale also
F# ,, ,, ,, beautiful. Altered.
So the first four a pretty much inside
Then last two get weird but very groovy
And there are two more sneaky ones do you want to know about them?
Ok
They both make our friend F7 into F7 sus — one w a flat nine, the other with a flat 13
...but you really do not have to be all intellectually aware of these finer details. Just learn them. Just mix them up.
Eb minor six shape

Sandemose on "Videos with members playing"
Hey, Id thought it would be fun to see/hear people here play. No competetion, no showing off, just how it is when we enjoy ourselfs while playing music. I recorded a video today playing Beutiful Love. Soundquality is quite bad. Poorly filmed (I had to put my cellphone in my bookshelf to film myself, but came out of frame except for my face (haha) but no guitar/hands visable), and I skrew up the form sometimes I think. But I thought that the take had some moments either way. I would love to see videos/or recordings with you guys. Also the staff (ACT shows us your chops!) or Kurt for that matter :)

Ramon on "AH Rocket pedal? Tone quest help needed."
Hi guys, does anyone have experience with this pedal (AH rocket), maybe thru a ss (Henriksen amp). It seems like a very versatile pedal, not just for the lead tone but in a few yt demos (taken with a grain of salt) it seems in particular to also have a very nice punchy and sparkly clean and defined sound even with low gain/od. Can someone enlighten me? I have a way old proco Rat that i like for OD but the AH Rocket´s clean sound is intriguing, ive been considering something like the Barb Eq to fatten up the Henriksen - yes, i am aware they are maybe night and day in terms of the idea/inteneded use of each pedal, thats why i am asking for advice, im curious as to if i can maybe get the best of both worlds + more with the AH Rocket.
Thanks.
Oh, i am new here btw, great forum.
reggit25 on "Mike Moreno Lesson Audio"
Hey everyone!
This is kind of a sister thread to the Lage Lund Lesson Audio post. I was wondering if anybody has any recordings of lessons or clinics/masterclasses from Mike Moreno? I have a tonne of my own Rosenwinkel, Lund and Moreno transcriptions that I've recently scanned onto my computer and I'd be very happy to trade them all for a some audio lesson stuff- I would like to hook up a skype lesson with him but the internet connection out where I live just wouldn't allow it.

shayo on "Learning Standards"
Hey Guys,
So I am playing guitar for a while already. I have a very some understanding of theory. I am vey passionate about that and try to practice as much as I can. However, I feel that I have a real problem with learning and playing standards and I am curious of how other players do it. My ear is not very good, so usually when I play Standards with others I really have to count the chords or look at the chord charts in order to know where I am - without it I'm kinda lost as I don't know when to get in and out and where I am on the chorus. Also, I am trying to learn songs by ear, but I find it impossible to understand the changes from the recording, what end up happens is that I know the melody and I can hear some bass notes but that doesn't really help me to understand the whole chords. In case that there is a piano or a guitar in the recording - I put each chord on a-b loop and listening carefully for that specific chord note after note until I find it, but I still don't know the standard. I am not sure, maybe i'm doing something wrong, maybe I am listening to the wrong recordings (I usually try to transcribe chords from Chet Baker recording just because he plays simple). Please advise.
Thanks a lot.

Chris on "Adam Rogers old town Masterclass"
Hello y'all,
I heard through the grapevine that adam Rogers is doing a clinic/masterclass at old town school of folk music in Chicago this weekend. I travelled to Chicago to see kurt do a masterclass there last April and I was very impressed with the school and hearing kurt talk and play was amazing.
I live in upstate ny so unfortunately I can't drop everything and attend Adams masterclass on the 24th, but I'm wondering if someone on this forum is planning on attending. If so it'd be lovely if you recorded the masterclass and shared. I hope this request does not offend anyone, but it's rare to hear adam speak about his music and the guitar and I would really love to hear what he has to say.
I think the old town school is a fantastic program and I would totally be attending if 20 hrs of driving there didn't seperate us :)
Thanks everyone! Looking forward to any responses!!

Hi guys,
does anyone tell me what is a good value in milliseconds for delay setting? I don't think is necessary to set it at the tune bpm...
Thank you in advance
guitar1025 on "Chord Voicing"
Hey guys!
I was messing around with this voicing today while I was practicing:
x7553x
This is a voicing that I have seen A LOT, whether it's in videos on YouTube or watching guitarists up close. Can anyone tell me the derivation of it?? I've been messing around with it in the usual way; playing it chromatically over a pedal to see all of the possible uses for it. From that alone I can see WHY I see it so often. Just curious where it actually comes from.
Thanks guys!
